Honda Automobiles: Honda's Cumulative Worldwide Hybrid Vehicle Sales Reaches 800,000 Units

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that Honda's cumulative worldwide hybrid vehicle sales surpassed 800,000 units as of the end of December 2011. This milestone was reached 12 years and two months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan in November 1999.

Honda introduced the first-generation Insight, Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid equipped with Honda's original lightweight and compact Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system. More recently, following the introduction of the second-generation Insight in 2009, Honda has introduced a total of six new hybrid models in the last three years to expand the hybrid vehicle lineup and sales. Honda's annual worldwide hybrid sales for 2011 was approximately 200,000 units (up 30 percent compared to 2010), and Honda's total hybrid sales during the last three years exceeded 500,000 units. In Japan, the ratio of hybrid vehicles exceeded 45 percent of all new Honda vehicle registrations for the month of December 2011. Cumulative hybrid sales in North America reached 338,872 units as of December 2011.

As of today, Honda sells seven hybrid models in approximately 50 countries around the world. In addition, the market introduction of the ILX, the first Acura brand model equipped with a hybrid system, is scheduled for spring 2012 in North America.

Under the global environmental slogan of "Blue Skies for Our Children," Honda will continue its efforts to realize the further market penetration of hybrid vehicles to create a low carbon society.

Honda Automobiles: Honda Begins Deliveries of 2013 Fit EV

Honda delivered a 2013 Fit EV battery-electric vehicle to the city of Torrance today as one of the first major steps in the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program, a prelude to the retail market launch of the Fit EV with customers in California and Oregon this summer.

The delivery was marked by a ceremony at the Torrance City Hall, at which a key to the Fit EV was presented to Torrance Mayor Frank Scotto by Steve Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda.

"This is an exciting day as we take another important step toward Honda's comprehensive vision for reducing CO2 emissions while at the same time advancing our relationship with the city of Torrance," said Steve Center. "Honda has a long history with electric vehicles starting with the introduction of our first battery-electric car, the EV Plus, nearly 15 years ago. With Honda's extensive experience and the real-world feedback from the city of Torrance, we will be even more prepared for the further customer adoption of electric vehicles."

Over the past year, Honda and the city of Torrance have worked together to gather input from Torrance residents about potential recharging station locations and jointly participated in numerous public awareness events with a Fit EV test vehicle. Honda and the city will continue to further these initiatives while also studying local government fleet usage of an electrified vehicle. The city of Torrance will also receive a Honda plug-in hybrid for additional testing at a later date.

"Today, in our partnership with Honda and their continuing efforts in renewable technologies, we will be driving into a more sustainable future," said city of Torrance Mayor Frank Scotto.

Honda unveiled the 2013 Fit EV at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and announced plans to begin leasing the 123 city-mile per charge (76 mile range combined adjusted city/highway)¹ battery-electric commuter vehicle to its U.S. customers in the summer of 2012. Equipped with a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery and 92 kW coaxial electric motor, the Fit EV battery can be fully recharged in as little as 3 hours when connected to a 240-volt circuit.

Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program
As part of the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program, Honda will test the Fit EV with Google Inc. and Stanford University, in addition to the City of Torrance, California. Each program participant will provide Honda with real-world feedback on the Fit EV. Individually, each participant will use the Fit EV to further initiatives such as research into human behavior and various usages like personal, fleet and car-sharing.

Honda Environmental Leadership
In addition to the Fit EV, Honda is a leader in the development of leading-edge technologies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. Honda has led the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) rankings of overall vehicle environmental performance since 2000, and a Honda vehicle has topped the list of America's greenest vehicles, from the America Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), for eleven consecutive years.

In 2006, Honda became the first automaker to announce voluntary CO2 emissions reduction targets for its global fleet of automobile, powersports and power equipment products and its global network of manufacturing plants. Today, the company is striving for even greater reductions in CO2 emissions that contribute to global climate change, while also working to minimize waste, water use and the total environmental footprint of its operations worldwide.

Honda Accord Coupe at NAIAS May Be The Best Since 1994

The last time Honda Accord was redesigned was in 2008. Thus, this is a welcome addition to freshen up Honda's lineup. The new Accord looks a bit more muscular than the previous version. Honda is clearly at least taking cues from current design trends.

"The Accord coupe made a grand entrance at NAIAS when it rolled out to the stage with red paint so stunning it looked lickable. Some new chrome trim accents and integrated rear decklid spoiler were among the additions to this already popular model. Personally I think it's the best Accord looking Accord coupe we've seen since the 1994-1997 model year." said Tyson Hugie from Scottsdale, Arizona, who attended the show. You can see the front bumper's dynamic lines are highlighted by a revised four-sided honeycomb grille and deeply set multi-reflector headlights. Lower fog-light spoilers are accented by crystallized chrome inlays.

Honda Accord Coupe Concept's 20-inch, machine-finished, 5-spoke wheels contribute to the vehicle's somewhat muscular stance. The rear taillights aggressively sweep into the body, while a trunk -lid spoiler and large exhaust finishers integrated into the bumper underscore the Accord Coupe Concept's muscular exterior.

The 2013 Accord will feature a few different engine options, which includes a Hybrid, an inline 2.4 liter four-cylinder, and 3.5 liter six-cylinder.

The four-cylinder will produce 181 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, and should have significant improvement in fuel economy. The new V-6 will produce 271 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the engines will be a 6-speed manual transmission or a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). We expected most will opt for the four-cylinder with the automatic CVT.

The Hybrid comes equipped with a 6 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and a powerful 120 kW electric motor. The all-electric range is around 10-15 miles in city driving scenarios with a top speed of 62 mph. Fully recharging the battery will take less than four hours using a 120-volt, outlet and less than 1.5 hours using a 240-volt charger.

The Hybrid will feature the first application of a new two-motor plug-in hybrid system to the Accord Sedan. The Honda two-motor hybrid system moves continuously through three modes - all-electric, gasoline-electric and direct-drive - to maximize driving efficiency and fuel economy. The gas engine mated to the electric motor will be 2 liter inline 4-cylinder.

The 2013 Accord is featuring new safety features too. Among the new features will be Honda's first application of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) technology. Both systems use a camera mounted behind the windshield to alert drivers if the car is moving out of its lane or to warn drivers of a potential collision in front of them.

The Accord will also be equipped with LaneWatch blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. The Accord will also receive a rearview back-up camera and an Expanded View Driver's Mirror as standard equipment.

The 2013 Accord will also offer more standard equipment compared to the outgoing model. This includes Blue-tooth, HandsFreeLink phone interface, a full-color intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) and an SMS text messaging function, Pandora, and iPhone compatibility.

"Marking the 30th anniversary of U.S. production, this new ninth-generation Accord will raise the bar again through a tour de force of new Honda powertrain and safety technologies, geared to ensure that Honda and the Accord continue to lead in fuel economy, safety and fun-to-drive performance," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda.

Can't disagree with Mr. Mendel as the Accord has proven time and again that they deserve the large sales numbers for the mid-sized sedan segment.

Honda suffered some setbacks in 2011 due to the flooding in Thailand disrupting global production and the Earthquake an tsunami that devastated Japan. Accord and Civic production were among the cars that were built in the plants in Thailand. It seems in 2012 Honda wants to regain sales momentum and not let domestic automakers catch ground.

There have been more than 11 million Honda Accord units sold in the US since 1976, when the car was introduced. With the Honda Accord entering it's ninth-generation, Honda seems to be on the right track with the new Accord.

Honda unveiled the dynamic Accord Coupe Concept today at the North American International Auto Show, providing the first official glimpse of the athletic styling direction, as well as revealing a host of new technologies for the all-new, ninth-generation 2013 model, set to go on-sale this fall.

The 2013 Accord will feature three all-new powertrains, including the first U.S. application of both a 2.4-liter direct-injected engine and two-motor plug-in hybrid system from Honda's suite of next-generation Earth Dreamsâ¢ powertrain technologies. In addition, the V-6 Accord will be the first Honda sedan to feature a new 6-speed automatic transmission. Both the Accord Sedan and the Accord Coupe models are expected to achieve class-leading fuel economy ratings and will be available with a number of innovative new safety and technological features.

The Accord Coupe Concept features an athletic styling direction for Honda's best-selling model. The front bumper's dynamic lines are highlighted by a revised four-sided honeycomb grille and deeply set multi-reflector headlights. Lower fog-light spoilers are accented by crystallized chrome inlays.

The Accord Coupe Concept's 20-inch, machine-finished, 5-spoke wheels contribute to its solid stance. The rear taillights aggressively sweep into the body, while a trunk -lid spoiler and large exhaust finishers integrated into the bumper underscore the Accord Coupe Concept's muscular exterior.

While the Accord Coupe will remain similarly sized, the Accord Sedan will feature a more compact exterior footprint, adding to its sportier appearance. A shortened length and reduced weight will also give the 2013 Accord Sedan more responsive handling and improved driving dynamics. Both the 2013 Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe will retain the current model's generous cabin space.

Advanced and Efficient Powertrains

The Accord will offer three all-new powertrains for the 2013 model year. The Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe will be the first models in the U.S. to receive the new Earth Dreams 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTECÂ® four-cylinder engine featuring direct- injection (DI). The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission or a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which utilizes an innovative cooperative control system for excellent acceleration and responsive shifting. The all-new 2.4-liter DI engine generates significant performance improvements compared to the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine it replaces, producing more than 181 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. In addition to an overall improvement in fuel economy compared to the 2012 model, the new four-cylinder-equipped 2013 Accord models are targeted to deliver class-leading fuel economy1.

The 2013 Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe will also be offered with a re-engineered 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC, i-VTEC V-6 engine, paired to a new 6-speed automatic transmission or an available 6-speed manual transmission. The new V-6 engine generates an increase in horsepower and torque over the current model. The 2013 Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe models equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission will utilize Honda Variable Cylinder Management â¢ (VCMâ¢) technology and are targeted to achieve class-leading fuel economy¹ along with an overall improvement in fuel economy compared to the outgoing model.

The 2013 Accord lineup will also feature the first application of a new two-motor plug-in hybrid system to the Accord Sedan. All 2013 Accord models will incorporate the Honda ECO Assistâ¢ system, an innovative technology that can enhance efficient vehicle operation at the touch of a button, while also providing visual feedback to the driver to promote and confirm a more efficient driving style.

Safety and Technological Innovations

The 2013 Accord will introduce numerous new features for enhanced driver safety, visibility and security. The new Accord will be available with Honda's first application of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) technology. Both systems use a camera mounted behind the windshield to alert drivers if the car is moving out of its lane or to warn drivers of a potential collision in front of them.

The 2013 Accord is targeted to earn top scores in both the federal government's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety² (IIHS) vehicle evaluations.

Additionally, the Accord will be equipped with several new technologies to help improve the driver's visibility around the vehicle. The Accord will be the first model to receive the Honda-exclusive LaneWatchâ¢ blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. The Accord will also receive a rearview back-up camera and an Expanded View Driver's Mirror as standard equipment.

The Accord has always been an exceptional value and the 2013 model will offer more standard equipment compared to the current model, including new advanced technology features. High-tech features that will be found on all 2013 Accord models include BluetoothÂ®³ HandsFreeLinkÂ® phone interface, a full-color intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) and an SMS text messaging function, which can read received texts from compatible cell phones aloud over the audio system. The 2012 Honda CR-V went on sale last month, and in case you weren't sure what to do with yours, two new ads want you to know that the $22,295 crossover is for getting your overdue dreams accomplished before 'settling down.' And that's not just some dreams, that's all of them, from seeing the Northern Lights to making a movie to lugging around a homemade, fighting robot. Presumably you can then put the same, robot-scarred vehicle into service for bride and baby.

Honda Fit tops Japanese-dominated Consumer Reports best new car values

Looking for the best value in a new car? Better make it Japanese, according to Consumer Reports. The go-to buyer's guide has just finished compiling its list of the best values in the new-car market, and an overwhelming proportion of them hail from the Land of the Rising Sun.

CR took some 200 different vehicles into account, catalogued them into eleven categories and picked the best values based on the outcome of their own road tests, their reliability ratings and overall ownership costs (including depreciation) over a five-year term. The resulting 48 best values included 34 picks from Japanese automakers, six European, five American and three South Korean.

At the very top of the list sits the Honda Fit, which not only ranked as the best value in its category, but the best value overall. Consumer Reports concludes that, even discounting the Fit from your shopping list, the small car category still represents the best value no matter which model you choose. Case in point: The Chevrolet Cruze, which was ranked as the worst value in the small car category, still ranked above average overall. Follow the jump for the full press release.

New Honda FCX Clarity

American Honda's new zero emissions electric vehicle the FCX Clarity is having a limited release in Southern California for a 3 year lease. This limited release will serve as a test for American Honda officials to witness the progression of the vehicle over a long term period.

American Honda ensures the public that the FCX Clarity is strictly an electric vehicle, and that the only by product is water. Honda states, âThe fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen to make electricity. The electricity then powers the electric motor, which in turn propels the vehicle.â

In addition to this, the specifications on the Clarity enable it to be almost 400 pounds lighter than a normal fuel propelled vehicle, has 120% power-to-weight ratio, and is 20% more fuel efficient.

For safety, Honda has included the Collision Mitigation Braking System. This helps alert the driver to possible collisions and will automatically slow the vehicle and apply brake pressure in the event of an accident.

Autoweek Praises Honda Odyssey

It's easy to tell which Autoweek editor got the keys to a Porsche or a Chevrolet Corvette--the big grin gives it away. Or that lucky staffer could be driving our long-term Honda Odyssey minivan.

After the Odyssey's first three months in our hands, its logbook was full of praise. We love the smooth but controlled ride, ample and comfortable seating and cavernous cargo area revealed when the third-row seats are stowed.

One editor noted, "I'm sorry I flew to Florida instead of driving this terrific road warrior."

You won't find the Odyssey unclaimed on any given night. In the first quarter of our yearlong test, we racked up 5,571 miles and burned through 255 gallons of fuel--for an average of 21.8 mpg (the official rating is 22 mpg).

Honda's 3.5-liter V6 is eager to shift into Eco mode, shutting down some cylinders under cruising or light-load conditions. That's aided by our maxed-out Touring Elite's six-speed automatic. But a healthy stab at the accelerator summons all 248 hp for low-drama freeway entry.

Not everyone is a fan of the Odyssey's look on the outside, with its beltline zig at the rear edge of the sliding doors. But everyone has been seduced by the sumptuous interior. Comparisons to a private jet are popular, and the wide-screen video monitor wows back-seat passengers.

The display in the center of the dash is nicely hooded to prevent glare. Unfortunately, changing radio stations is not as simple as turning a knob, so it's a good idea to load up the presets before heading out.

The Odyssey is universally praised for its smooth ride, lack of body lean in turns and ability to absorb rough roads without jostling occupants. And there's no lack of door pockets and bins to stash stuff, as the next driver typically finds out.

Over the past month, Honda of Concord has been hosting a drive to collect coats for underpriviledged children in Cabarrus County through the Coats for Kids Foundation. We had been moderately successful, until today when the kind students and faculty of Concord High School brought in 72 coats to add to our collection!

The Spiders informed us that these jackets were the result of a school-wide community service project to help provide clothing to those in need. The Coats for Kids foundation, which focuses on providing new jackets to children, will be picking up our large donation soon!

On behalf of Wes Watkins, our general manager, and the rest of the Honda of Concord staff, Thank you, Concord Spiders, for helping us reach our goal and to help the Cabarrus County community through the winter months.

Thailand's worst flood in 50 years claimed the lives of 610 people and caused billions in damage, but with the waters slowly receding, the extent of the damage is coming into focus.

Among the tens of thousands of businesses affected by the disaster, Honda hasn't been spared - its factory in the Ayutthaya province was hit hard, and in an effort to assure that damaged vehicles never make it to consumers, the Japanese automaker has begun to scrap over 1,000 vehicles damaged during the flood.

Honda workers have begun disposing of row upon row of Brio and City subcompacts submerged during the flooding using construction equipment and vehicle crushers to demolish the 1,055 vehicles. The tragic yet oddly beautiful gallery above chronicles the aftermath and resulting destruction.

A new study by Warranty Direct in the UK claims Hondamakes vehicles that are the least-susceptible to damage from potholes. According to the company, only 1.4 percent of Honda owners submit a warranty claim for repair due to pothole damage. Compare that figure with the 12.2 percent of Chryslerowners who submit claims - the American automaker found itself the least resilient to pothole damage alongside luxury makes like Land Rover, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benzand BMW. Surprisingly enough, Smart actually landed itself in second place for the number of claims submitted as a result of pothole damage.

Economical brands like Toyota, Hyundai, Nissanand Kiaall fare well against rough pavement, however. We're not surprised by the outcome. Luxury vehicles are more likely to be equipped with low-profile tires and large, expensive wheels that can easily be bent or broken under the right circumstances. Honda Automobiles: New Four-cylinder 2012 Honda Crosstour EX and EX-L Combine Affordability, Fuel Efficiency and a Sleek Crossover Design

Two new four-cylinder, two-wheel-drive Honda Crosstour models are set to go on sale next month, broadening the vehicle's appeal through a lower price point and EPA-estimated fuel economy that increases 3 mpg¹ in the city and 2 mpg¹ on the highway.

Equipped with a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline four-cylinder engine producing 192 horsepower, the newest Crosstour is available in two trim levels, including the Crosstour EX and leather-upholstered Crosstour EX-L. A Honda Satellite-linked Navigation System² is available on the Crosstour EX-L.

EPA-estimated fuel economy on the four-cylinder Crosstour is 21 mpg¹ city and 29 mpg¹ highway, a significant increase from the 271-horsepower 2WD V6 model's EPA estimated 18 mpg¹ city and 27 mpg¹ highway.

With the launch of the new four-cylinder Crosstour models, some useful features are now standard across the entire Crosstour family, which first debuted for the 2010 model year with V6 power. Standard features now include an automatic dimming rearview mirror, a rearview mirror back-up camera display for improved rear visibility (non-Navigation models), convenient auto-on/off headlights, Bluetooth³ HandsFreeLink and USB audio interface.

Bold Exterior and Functional Interior
Honda Crosstour approaches the crossover SUV formula from a distinctively sleek, sporty and fuel-efficient perspective, while also maximizing the interior's cargo capacity, versatility and premium feel.

The exterior design emphasizes a bold, aerodynamic look that also conceals an accommodating rear cargo area. The four-cylinder model includes body-color door handles and unique 17-inch alloy wheels with P225/65 R17 all-season tires. Two new colors are available on all 2012 Crosstour models: Twilight Blue Metallic replaces Glacier Blue Metallic, and Basque Red Pearl II replaces Tango Red Pearl.

Premium interior styling, appointments and details extend from the passenger compartment all the way through the cargo area. An under-floor storage area in the rear of the vehicle adds functionality, while reversible cargo floor panels accommodate dirty objects.

Efficient Four-cylinder Powertrain
The new four-cylinder Crosstour models come with a 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC engine for power and efficiency. The engine produces 192 horsepower at 7,000 RPM and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 4,400 RPM, while achieving an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy of 21/29/24 mpg¹. To maximize efficiency, a technologically advanced 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control is standard equipment.

Comprehensive Feature List
In addition to auto-on/off headlights, Bluetooth³ HandsFreeLink, USB audio interface and rearview mirror back-up camera display with integrated guidelines, additional standard features on the new four-cylinder Crosstour EX include projector-beam headlights, a moonroof, body-colored power side mirrors with defrost, auto-up/down driver and front passenger side windows, and rear privacy glass. Crosstour EX-L adds leather-trimmed seating surfaces with heated front seats, a memory driver-side seat and memory-linked side mirrors with reverse gear tilt-down capability, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, a premium audio system with Kevlar cone speakers and front aluminum dome-type tweeter speakers, XM Radio and more. Also available on the Crosstour EX-L is the Honda Satellite-linked Navigation System² which includes a rearview camera with guidelines integrated into the display.

Safety Assets
Safety technology includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. Honda To Dealers: Reworked Civic coming before end of 2012

It's no secret that the 2012 Honda Civic has been the subject of harsh criticism since its launch earlier this year. It's also no secret that Honda is rushing to redesign the Civic, and while we originally reported that the new car would be coming sometime in 2013 or 2014, a memo to the automaker's dealer network states that the reworked Civic will arrive before the end of 2012.

We use the term "redesign" lightly, of course. As much as Honda wants to improve upon its new Civic, the truth is that the updates to the car will almost assuredly be the standard mid-cycle refresh kit. Our best guess is that the interior will benefit from more soft-touch materials and added sound deadening and there could be new paint and wheel design options. According to The Associated Press, American Honda President Tetsuo Iwamura stated that the automaker will "improve the Civic's drivability," meaning a slight suspension and driveline tuning could be in store, as well.

By shortening the bore pitch compared to the present engine models and reducing the thickness of the cylinder block and camshaft, engine weight is reduced by 15%^*3 and fuel efficiency is improved by 10%^*3.

[1.3 to 1.5L class engine]

Employs VTC, direct injection technology and the Atkinson cycle using the DOHC, VTEC technologies as the base.
Extensive friction reduction measures are implemented.

[1.8 to 2.0L class engine]

Employs direct injection technology and the Atkinson cycle using the DOHC, VTEC technologies as the base. Further, implementation of VTC and high-capacity EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) to both the intake and exhaust ports realizes significantly reduced friction.
For the 2.0L class hybrid vehicle engines, use of an electric water pump eliminates the need for a belt in the auxiliary device and contributes to a reduction in friction. The VTC system allows fuel-efficient driving in various driving styles.

[2.4L class engine]

Based on the DOHC and VTEC technologies, it employs VTC and direct injection technology and implements extensive friction reduction measures.
Standalone engine features 5%^*3 improvements in fuel efficiency and output as well as a 10%^*3 improvement in maximum torque compared to the previous engine.

[3.5L class engine]

Employs new valve train mechanisms and direct injection technology in the SOHC, VTEC, VMC systems to improve by over 10%^*3 of fuel efficiency and 5%^*3 of output, relative to the present standalone engine model.

2. A compact diesel engine which realizes the world's lightest body^*1, top-of-class^*1 acceleration performance and fuel efficiency.

Through optimizing engine rigidity and combustion pressure, an aluminum open deck for the cylinder block was enabled in this top-of-industry lightweight^*1 1.6L class diesel engine.
By downsizing from the present 2.2L engine and extensively reducing mechanical friction in each section, a friction level equivalent to present gasoline engine models was achieved.
Optimized thermal management system thanks to improvements in the cooling system reduces CO2 output by over 15%^*3.
Employment of a compact, high-efficiency turbocharger and weight reduction in the reciprocating sliding section realizes a sporty and nimble ride.

3. CVT which combines at a high level the fun of driving and fuel efficiency.

Three CVT structures for mini, compact, and mid-size vehicle classes are newly developed to be adopted for a variety of engine models.
Reinforced belt is used to realize a structure for which a wide ratio range can be set.
Implementation of analysis technology over the contact behavior between the belt and pulley, and a high-precision hydraulic control system allows for continual optimization of hydraulic pressure to the pulley under a variety of driving conditions, contributing to improved fuel efficiency.
Use of an electronic oil pump to realize an idle stop system with high response contributes significantly to improved usability and fuel efficiency.
"G-Design Shift", a new coordinated control system for shift transmission, throttle, and hydraulic control responds quickly to driver demands and realizes an exhilarating, sporty drive with superior acceleration.
In the mini-vehicle class, a control mechanism and innovations in axle placement to reduce the engine size lengthwise, while a reduction in parts by simplifying the transmission casing structure helps realize a lightweight and compact body.
For the compact and mid-size classes, in addition to the reductions in size and weight, transmission efficiency was greatly improved by expanding the ratio range to achieve fuel efficiency improvements of 5%^*3 and 10%^*3 compared to the conventional CVT and comparable 5ATs, respectively.

4. A two-motor hybrid system which realizes top-of-industry efficiency^*1.

A two-motor hybrid system featuring top-of-industry efficiency^*1 enhancing driving performance and reduced CO2 emissions has been newly developed.
Special lithium-ion battery and charger is employed to enable mounting on plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Mid-sized vehicles equipped with this system are scheduled to begin production, starting with the plug-in hybrid model in 2012 and the hybrid model in 2013.
Three driving modes allowing for top-of-industry efficiency^*1 for various driving environments were developed; an "EV driving mode" for urban environments, a "hybrid driving mode" using electricity generated by the motor, and a "engine-connected driving mode" where the engine and tires are mechanically connected during high-speed cruising.
Combination with a high-output 120kW motor allows for superior environmental performance and driving enjoyment.

5. A high-efficiency, high output electric SH-AWD hybrid system which combines superior driving and environmental performance.

A new hybrid system, electric SH-AWD, was developed for large-sized vehicles. By combining a 3.5L, V6 engine with this hybrid system, acceleration equivalent to V8 engines, as well as fuel efficiency equal or superior to in-line 4-cylinder engines were realized.
An electric 4WD system with independent 20kW+ motors on both sides for the rear wheels combines a 7-speed dual clutch transmission system with a built-in 30kW+ high-efficiency motor with the engine.
By mounting a high-performance lithium-ion battery and optimally controlling the front and rear motors, a new hybrid system with high fuel efficiency and output was realized.
By mounting two independent motors in the rear and employing a newly developed bilateral torque adjustable control system, incredibly tight cornering just like driving "on-the-rail" is realized. With this mechanism, Honda strives to provide a stable ride for various driving environments.

6. A compact, high efficiency electric powertrain for EVs.

Thanks to the high efficiency coaxial motor, low-friction gearbox and electric servo brake system, the system realizes the highest electrical consumption capability in the world*1, meeting the required AC consumption rate of 29kWh/100mile(116MPGe) as set forth by the United States.
A traveling distance of 123 miles^*2(LA-4mode: unadjusted) or 210km^*2(JC08 mode) was achieved thanks to the mounting of a high capacity lithium-ion battery.
When using the 240V U.S. electric source, a full charge takes less than 3 hours. (From the time a low-charge signal is lit till full charge)
By offering three driving modes (SPORT, NORMAL, ECON), the driver can freely select from a number of options to meet the needs of various driving styles such as power-saving or sporty drive.

Honda Automobiles: American Honda Reports November Sales

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted November sales of 83,925 vehicles, a decrease of 10.1 percent, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales reached 1,042,055, down 5.7 percent versus last year, based on the daily selling rate*.

Honda Division posted November sales of 74,016, a decrease of 9.9 percent versus November 2010. The Pilot continued its momentum with sales of 10,487, up 32.6 percent. The Civic was the top-selling Honda model for November with sales of 17,133, a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to last year. The CR-V posted sales of 16,426, a decrease of 13.7. The Accord posted sales of 14,355 a decrease of 17.9 percent.

"The impact of the Thailand flooding on our North American production levels continued to be felt in November," said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales. "We're looking forward to closing the year on a strong note as production recovers and the all-new CR-V goes on sale this month."

Acura Division recorded November sales of 9,909, a decrease of 11.2 percent versus November 2010, and year-to-date sales of 110,170, down 7.1 percent. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with November sales of 3,308 down 24.2 percent. The TSX posted record November sales of 2,691.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 25 days for November 2011 and 24 days for November 2010. Year-to-date DSR is calculated with 280 days for 2011 and 279 days for 2010. All percentages reflect DSR.

Honda UK and Mugen launch supercharged CR-Z iCF

While Honda doesn't have any plans to bring the carbon fiber-laced CR-Z Mugen RR to production, the company has announced that buyers in the UK will have the chance to pick up a quicker version of the hybrid hatchback. The Honda CR-Z iCF will boast a little over 172 horsepower thanks to some wrenching by Mugen Euro. The base 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine packs a centrifugal supercharger along with an intercooler and a remapped ECU. As a result, the dash to 60 miles per hour takes just 6.1 seconds. For reference, the base CR-Z hobbles to the same speed in well over nine seconds.

The Honda CR-Z comes from the factory with 122 horsepower, which is only adequate for hustling the 2,657-pound hybrid around town. The additional 50 ponies in the iCF should make the machine plenty entertaining, and Honda says that the vehicle's three drive modes have been maintained for the best fuel economy possible. In October of 1777 all 13 colonies celebrated Thanksgiving for the first time; however it was a one-time affair commemorating a victory over the British at Saratoga.

Benjamin Franklin, who proposed the turkey as the official United States' bird, was not happy when the bald eagle was chosen instead. In a letter to his daughter, Franklin referring to the eagle's "bad moral character," said: "For my own part I wish the Eagle had not been chosen the representative of our country" and "For in Truth, the Turk'y is in comparison a much more respectable bird and withal a true original native of America".

2012 Green Car of the Year is the Honda Civic Natural Gas

The 2012 Green Car of the Year award was snagged from the electric and diesel jaws of its competitors by the Honda Civic Natural Gas. In a year full of standard gasoline powertrain alternatives, the Civic beat out the Ford Focus Electric, Mitsubishi i, Toyota Prius V and the Volkswagen Passat TDI.

Green Car Journal hands out the award and its rules state that the GCOTY needs to have a "quantifiable environmental achievement," market significance and "newness." Any car that has these clearly defined features and is available for sale by January 1, 2012 can be a nominee, and the list of finalists is whittled down by GCJ editors and selected industry and environmental experts.

Over the last four years, the GCOTY was won by a hybrid (the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid in 2008), diesels (the Volkswagen Jetta TDI in 2009 and the Audi A3 TDI in 2010) and a plug-in hybrid (the Chevrolet Volt in 2011). In our informal poll we put up when the five finalists were announced a month ago, the Focus Electric dominated the field.

Honda Automobiles: Honda Fit EV Makes World Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

Honda today unveiled the all-new 2013 Fit EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show, announcing plans to begin leasing the 123 city-mile per charge (76 mile range combined adjusted city/highway)¹ battery electric commuter vehicle to its U.S. customers in the summer of 2012. The Fit EV is based on the popular Fit hatchback and is a part of the company's diverse portfolio of alternative fuel vehicles that includes gasoline-electric hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell-electric and natural gas-powered models.

American Honda will begin leasing the Fit EV to customers in select California and Oregon markets next summer, and will expand to six East Coast markets in early 2013. The Fit EV's Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price² (MSRP) is $36,625 with an estimated lease priced at $399 a month. Honda will monitor market acceptance, but expects volume at this early stage of production to be approximately 1,100 Fit EV's over the next three years.

"The Fit EV is the next critical step in Honda's portfolio approach to alternative fueled vehicles," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "There is no other automaker on the planet whose spirit is more deeply invested in the effort to realize a cleaner, more energy-efficient and ultimately more sustainable transportation future than Honda."

Fit EV Performance
The Fit EV is designed to meet the needs of an average urban commuter, offering an estimated driving range of 123-miles on a single charge using the US EPA city cycle test methods (Honda anticipates a combined city/highway EV range of 76 miles on the new Fuel Economy labels) 1. The Fit EV will be powered by a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 92 kilowatt coaxial electric motor. The high density electric motor, derived from the motor used in the FCX Clarity fuel cell electric vehicle, delivers excellent efficiency and power while remaining quiet at high speeds.

Driving range of the Fit EV can be maximized by using several innovative features, including a 3- mode electric drive system, adapted from the CR-Z Sport Hybrid. The system allows the driver to select between Econ, Normal and Sport to instantly and seamlessly change the driving experience to maximize efficiency or improve acceleration. While in Econ mode, practical driving range can increase by as much as 17-percent compared to driving in Normal mode. Acceleration improves significantly when in Sport mode, adding to the Fit EV's fun to drive nature.

In addition to the 3-mode driving system, the Fit EV includes interactive coaching features designed to assist the driver in maximizing battery performance and driving range. The power meter alerts the driver to optimal driving conditions. Additional energy- saving features includes a highly efficient electric air conditioning system and new regenerative braking system.

The 6.6 kW, onboard 32 amp charger allows for convenient recharging of the Fit EV. With a 240-volt charger, the Fit EV can fully recharge in as little as three hours. At launch timing, Honda will have a preferred Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) charging supplier.

Fit EV Exterior and Interior Styling
The exterior dimensions of the Fit EV are identical to the gasoline-powered Fit with the addition of a higher hip point to accommodate the under floor placement of the 20 kWh battery. When the car launches in summer 2012, it will be available in one exclusive color, Reflection Blue Pearl. EV badges on the rear hatch and decals on the side of the vehicle distinguish the electric vehicle from its gasoline counterpart.

The Fit EV carries a familiar chrome front fascia that is similar to other Honda environmentally-responsible vehicles like the FCX Clarity fuel cell electric vehicle and Insight hybrid. The Fit EV is outfitted with distinct five-spoke alloy wheels and an aerodynamic rear spoiler.

In the passenger cabin, the seating surfaces are covered with bio-fabric. The Fit EV features illuminated meters that alert the driver to key vehicle functions including state of charge, battery usage and driving range. The meters change color depending on the driving mode selected (green, white or red).

The Fit EV features a spacious and functional cabin with comfortable seating for up to five passengers. For enhanced versatility, the Fit EV offers multiple seating and cargo-carrying configurations.

Fit EV Telematics and Interactive Remote
To help the driver manage the electric vehicle ownership experience, the Fit EV will have a standard telematics system that allows the driver to stay connected through a smartphone, personal computer or interactive remote. Through the Fit EV smartphone and computer applications, the driver can remotely view the vehicles state of charge, initiate charging and activate the air conditioning and heater, to pre-condition the vehicle while connected to the grid which maximizes battery range on start-up. The mobile application and website also offers the ability to set charging notifications and alerts to optimize charging times based on varying utility rates and provides access to 24-hour roadside assistance. The Fit EV will come equipped with a standard Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System that provides the ability to locate public charging stations and frequently updated traffic information.

The interactive remote allows the driver to monitor the vehicles state of charge and cabin temperature. Additionally, the driver can initiate and terminate charging and remotely turn on the air conditioning using the interactive remote. The interactive remote does not require an internet or mobile connection to operate however the driver must be within 100 feet (30 meters) of the vehicle.

Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program
Honda will test the Fit EV with the City of Torrance, California Google Inc. and Stanford University as a part of the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program. Each program participant will provide Honda with real-world feedback on the Fit EV. Individually, each participant will use the Fit EV to further initiatives such as research into human behavior and various usage like personal, fleet and car-sharing.

We knew Honda's load-lugging curiosity, the Ridgeline pickup, was getting a modest refresh for the 2012 model year, and we even knew there was a new Sport model waiting in the wings. But now we have more details - including pricing.

For 2012, the Ridgeline range starts at $29,250* for the entry-level RT model and zooms all the way to $37,180* for the top-shelf RTL with navigation. The sweet spot, however, might just be the new Sport model shown above. At $29,995* it's only $749 more than the base RT, yet includes such visual niceties as 18-inch alloys (the base RT rolls on 17-inch steelies), blacked-out honeycomb grille and matching light bezels, as well as fog lamps and tinted rear windows. Inside, there's a leather-wrap wheel with audio controls, an aux input on the stereo and floor mats. (*All Ridgeline models are subject to a $810 delivery charge).

Range-wide changes for 2012 include a new front grille and various small aero improvements that help net the genre-straddling pickup a revised fuel economy rating of 15 city and 21 highway, an increase of 1 mpg on the interstate. The rest of the range remains basically unchanged, including the 3.5-liter V6 that offers 250 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque and its trademark in-bed trunk.

Despite consistently slow sales, Honda recently pledged that the Ridgeline still has a future. While we haven't seen or heard anything official out of the Japanese automaker about a successor, it has been rumored that the new-for-2012 CR-V could spawn a light-duty pickup variant at some point down the road.

2011 Honda Accord Coupe V6 Concept goes supercharged

Honda showed off a gaggle of wild concepts for SEMA 2011, but the most interesting of the bunch may very well be a demure 2011 Accord Coupe V6. The two-door has been worked over by the go-fast fiends at Honda Factory Performance and boasts a range of bolt-on goodies that include a HFP suspension and body kit. More importantly, the Accord Coupe V6 Concept is laden with a smattering of prototype engine components. Engineers crafted a prototype supercharger, intake and exhaust systems just for the vehicle, and the end result is a very respectable 335 horsepower 285 pound-feet of torque.

Those figures mark an increase of 64 ponies and 34 lb-ft of twist over the stock 3.5-liter V6, which should do plenty to make the Accord a more interesting piece of metal. Right now, Honda says that the concept was built purely to gauge public interest and determine whether or not Accord Coupe buyers would actually be interested in a hotter version of the vehicle. We say extra horsepower is always a good thing, especially when it comes with a factory warranty.

Few model lines have had as big an impact on the import tuner scene as the Honda Civic. The letters "S" and "i" have come to embody what the model's sporting potential, and with the revamped 2012 model already at dealers, Honda has brought a specially equipped Civic Si Coupe to SEMA fitted with all manner of Honda Factory Performance extras.

This limited edition Civic Si Coupe HFP packs an upgraded suspension (including new springs that drop the ride height by 15 millimeters and high-performance dampers), special 18-inch alloys, full body kit, the requisite special badging and some interior enhancements, all from the Honda Factory Performance catalog. Honda won't offer a complete turn-key HFP model, but dealers will be happy to sell you the kits already color-matched to the paint on your 2012 Si, and we bet they'll even fit the parts for you if you ask nicely and open your wallet.

Just 500 examples of the coupe-only kit will be offered at dealers (sorry, Si sedan owners) , but pricing has not been released yet. Seven modified 2012 Civic Si Coupes and Sedans are featured prominently in the Honda booth at the 2011 SEMA Show, which opens today. The all-new 2012 Civic Si Coupe and Civic Si Sedan emphasize the performance potential of the Civic lineup and represent great platforms for vehicle personalization. Several significant vehicles are being unveiled at the show, including a 2012 Civic Si Coupe equipped with a limited-edition Honda Factory Performance (HFP) package, the Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD) Compass360 Racing HPD 2012 Civic Si Coupe Racecar, the Accord Coupe HFP Concept and several vehicles equipped with Honda Genuine Accessories.

The Honda Civic was instrumental in the first import-tuner movement in the U.S. during the 80s, said Bruce Smith, vice president of Service and Technical Operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The all-new Civic Si builds on that proud history by offering inspiring performance, improved fuel economy and a great platform for personalization.

Show-goers will get the first look at the 2012 Civic Si Coupe fitted with a limited-edition HFP package. Limited to only 500 complete kits and on sale today at Honda dealers in the U.S., the package includes: high-performance springs, reducing ride height by 15 mm; high-performance dampers tuned for enhanced road handling and decreased body roll; 18x7 inch HFP Alloy Wheels; full HFP aerodynamic body kit; HFP carpet floor mats; red ambient interior illumination; and, HFP emblems. All of the painted parts will come color-matched to each of the seven available Civic Si Coupe colors.

After unveiling the Compass360 Racing HPD 2012 Civic Si Coupe Racecar, HPD provided details about its new racing performance parts program for the all-new Civic Coupe. Earlier this year, HPD began sales of Civic bodies-in-white, also on display. For builders of racecars, starting their build with a body-in-white represents significant cost and labor savings when compared to the purchase and conversion of a fully-equipped production car. Sales of the body-in-white began in July, and HPD has delivered a number to licensed race teams thus far, priced at $3,500 each. Additionally, HPD will soon offer HPD-designed parts and branded racing components for the new Civic through the Honda Racing Line. These racing parts are tailored for use in the SCCA World Challenge and Grand Am's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. They will be available early in 2012, and full details and pricing will be available at that time.

Combining the expertise of HPD and the styling and performance history of HFP, the Accord Coupe V6 HFP Concept features a full suite of currently-available HFP components. HPD guided the creation of the concept, which includes a supercharger and performance air intake and exhaust systems. Building upon a stock 3.5-liter V6 engine, the supercharged engine is estimated to produce 335 hp and 285 ft. lbs of torque (up 64 hp and 34 ft. lbs vs. stock car). This vehicle was modified to demonstrate the performance potential of the Accord V6 coupe and to gauge consumer interest. Honda has no current production plans for the concept.

Sporting available Honda Genuine Accessories, the 2012 Civic Si Sedan shows that performance and style can come with four doors. It features 18x7 inch HFP alloy wheels, all-season floor mats, trunk tray, cargo net, cargo hook and splash guards. All Honda Genuine Accessories, including HFP components, offer a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty like the Civic itself, if they are purchased and installed at the time of new vehicle purchase, and are engineered to be fully compatible with each Honda vehicle.

Nestled amongst two previously-seen Honda-modified CR-Z sport hybrids, the HPD CR-Z Hybrid R Concept and the CR-Z with MUGEN accessories, is a stand-alone HPD CR-Z engine concept equipped with a supercharger. This 1.5-liter engine concept builds upon HPDs experience with the turbocharged HPD CR-Z Racer that competed at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill last year and represents HPDs continued exploration of the performance potential of the CR-Z.

Reaching out to the import community, Honda invited three independent vehicle tuners to build and display their Civic Si concepts at the SEMA Show. Tuners were asked to push the limits of performance and style with their builds, and the vehicles on display demonstrate the personalized potential of the Si Coupe and Sedan. Following last years amazing CR-Z build, Bisimoto Engineering delivered a 1004 hp version of the Civic Si Coupe. Having previously built two generations of Fit project vehicles, Tjin Edition brings its own take on the Civic Si Sedan, showing that style and performance can coexist with kids and a family. And making its Honda SEMA Show debut, Fox Marketing pulled out all of the stops to create a wide-body, turbo-charged version of the Civic Si Coupe.

Honda of Concord joins the U. S Marine Corps Reserve for the third year in a row to help the Toys for Tots Foundation collect toys for children who are less fortunate.

As more families have less to spend at Christmas, now more than ever the Toys for Tots program needs our help. The goal for Honda of Concord is to support this program by filling up a vehicle in our showroom with new unwrapped toys. Anyone can stop by Honda of Concord and donate any new toy, large or small. The key is to make this an enjoyable Christmas for as many Children in our community as possible.

Due to the overwhelming donation of toys the past two years, Honda of Concord is thrilled to serve as a Toys for Tots drop off location for the third straight year. Last year, people in our community filled a 2011 Honda Ridgeline to the brim with toys. This year, we would like to collect even more toys. 2012 Honda Pilot Purchase Review..

Mr. Watkins,

I have bought 10 cars in my lifetime. Without question our 2012 Pilot purchase from your dealership this past Friday, was the best buying experience we have had by far. My wife and I agree that Gerard Apadula made it so. Gerard was quite responsive to my email requests for specific information. That led us to set up a visit to Honda of Concord to see the vehicle and determine if we could make a deal. Throughout the transaction Gerard was professional, respectful, knowledgeable, and courteous - to both of us. He kept us informed throughout the transaction, step by step. The first price quoted us was fair and the trade-in we transacted was also quoted, fairly. I had done a reasonable level of homework, and it is possible that we could have made a "better deal" elsewhere and perhaps a better deal with Honda of Concord. However, the overall professionalism and straight forward approach Gerard demonstrated to us made both of those actions undesirable. The overall process was efficient and when a couple of issues arose, Gerard handled them flawlessly, offering apologies and placing no blame. Impressive. Bottom line on our purchase: Gerard made it happen, it was a very pleasant experience. We have already spoken to 3 other couples about Gerard and Honda of Concord.

I would be remiss if I didn't also mention Tim. He was very courteous and knowledgeable, so much so that I purchased the extended warranty that I no intention of buying when I walked in - due in part to Tim not using high pressure sales tactics.

Yesterday, Honda hosted a surprise parade in Saco, Maine, to celebrate Joe LoCicero's amazing accomplishment of hitting one million miles on his 1990 Honda Accord. The parade interrupted a brief press conference where Joe was scheduled to receive an oversized key to a new 2012 Honda Accord from Ms. Maine, Ashley Marble.

The city of Saco was the venue for a one-block-long celebratory "Million Mile Joe" parade that featured:

giant odometer float powered by six people spinning life-sized hamster wheels;
airplane banner congratulating Joe;
Biddeford High School student-made floats;
Westbrook High School marching band and color guard;
Saco Middle School Marching Band;
Shoestring Theater stilt walkers; and
over-the-top costumed characters.

While the typical driver clocks about 14,000 miles per year, Joe does that in about three months. Joe's 1990 Honda Accord has taken him one million miles over the past 15 years, a feat that speaks to the reliability of his Honda as well as the dedication of its driver to reach this unique milestone. The Honda Fit builds on its proven strengths for 2012 with updated styling on Fit Sport, interior upgrades on all models, and the addition of new standard and available features.

The Fit's compact size and tight turning diameter (34.4 feet, curb-to-curb) can conveniently navigate space-confined urban areas and fit in small parking spaces. Yet a roomy and versatile interior offers the convenience and cargo volume of a relatively larger vehicle. Compared to any other vehicle in the subcompact class, the five-passenger Fit provides the lowest, flattest cargo floor and the most cargo volume of 57.3 cu-ft. when the rear seats are down. Its four distinct seat configurations are designed to accommodate large objects ranging from mountain bikes to surfboards to tall houseplants.

Fit Sport exterior updates for 2012 include new designs for the front grille and bumper, black headlight bezels and a dark "machined surface" finish for the alloy wheels (replaces a painted finish appearance). The entry-model Fit retains its exclusive front fascia design and for 2012 receives body-color exterior mirrors (previously black) and updated wheel covers.

Inside, the Fit Sport interior is enhanced with dark metallic dashboard components for a unified color theme (replacing the previous gray and black theme). Fit Sport receives additional chrome accents around instrument displays. All models receive newly designed console-mounted center beverage holders along with console ambient lighting, which provide easier access and greater stability. For 2012, it gains standard steering wheel-mounted audio controls for fingertip operation (previously exclusive to navigation-equipped models) and upgraded seat fabric. When equipped with the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation Systemâ¢ with Voice Recognition5, the Fit Sport now includes BluetoothÂ®1 HandsFreeLinkÂ® to help make hands-free telephone calls more convenient. A sporty, refined and dynamic driving experience is provided by the front MacPherson strut suspension and torsion beam rear suspension. A significantly updated 2012 Insight hybrid debuts today with new exterior styling, an enhanced interior, additional features on select models and an EPA fuel economy-rating1 improvement of 1 mpg.
The Insight 's city/highway/combined EPA fuel economy rating¹ of 41/44/42 mpg, up from 40/43/41 on the prior model, continues to offer the highest EPA fuel economy rating of any new vehicle currently available with a Manufacturer 's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting under $20,000.

The aerodynamically styled, five-passenger, five-door dedicated hybrid vehicle receives extensive changes inside and out for 2012. Exterior changes include a more distinctive grille design that introduces a thin, blue accent bar representative of the Insight 's high-tech hybrid identity. Restyled front and rear bumpers, along with changes under the vehicle, contribute to a 2-percent increase in aerodynamic performance. New designs for the headlight and brake light internal reflectors further complete the refreshed look. Insight and Insight LX models have new 15-inch wheel covers and the Insight EX has newly styled 15-inch alloy wheels. Slightly wider 185/60R15 tires, up from 175/65R15 tires on the prior model, contribute to confident driving performance.

The Insight is powered by an Integrated Motor Assistâ¢ (IMAâ¢) system comprised of a 1.3-liter iâVTECÂ® gasoline 4-cylinder engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor. The combination develops 98 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 123 lb-ft. of torque at 1000-1700 rpm. For 2012, friction-reducing measures in the engine and the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) contribute to the new model 's increased fuel economy. A 10.6-gallon fuel tank provides an estimated maximum driving range exceeding 400 miles.

The Insight features the Eco Assistâ¢ System, an innovation that can enhance efficient vehicle operation while providing feedback related to individual driving styles. Eco Assist can help drivers improve fuel efficiency, both by altering vehicle functionality and providing driver feedback, with fuel economy dependent on their given set of driving conditions. Pressing the ECON button can further enhance the efficiency of multiple vehicle systems: throttle control, CVT operation, idle-stop duration, air conditioning and cruise-control operation (if equipped). Eco Assist also provides feedback about driving style via a 3D-like background within the speedometer. The background changes colors from green to blue to reflect how efficiently or inefficiently the driver is accelerating or braking (green is more efficient).

Aerodynamic refinements for 2012 include changes to the shape of the engine bay underbody cover and the addition of air diffusers under the rear bumper to smooth airflow exiting behind the vehicle. The strakes ahead of the front wheels have been extended by 0.4 inches to better direct air around the wider front tires.

Standard safety features on all Insight models include dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; front-side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); side-curtain airbag system; anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution (EBD); driver 's and front-passenger 's active head restraints; and a front body structure designed to mitigate pedestrian injuries. The 2012 Insight is offered in three distinct models. The value-oriented base model, simply designated as "Insight," is well equipped with a 160-watt, two-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, power windows, remote entry and more.

Honda Pilot tops shootout among seven 3-row SUVs

The family-size SUV market is an action movie.

New and freshened entries. Rising fuel economy. Zooming technology. Flashier styling. All of which would mean nothing if buyers weren't impressed. But they are.

Ford Explorers, Chevrolet Traverses, Honda Pilots and other three-row, family SUVs account for one of every seven new vehicles sold, reports J.D. Power and Associates, and buyers are paying a segment-record average transaction price of about $33,000.

Our latest Shootout comparison is a face-off among seven vehicles in the heart of that family SUV market: 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilotand Kia Sorentoand the 2011 Mazda CX-9and Toyota Highlander.

Our experts, plus the Koch family of Hoffman Estates, Ill., tested and rated them for the Cars.com/USA TODAY/MotorWeek$37,000 Three-row SUV Shootoutâ a mouthful that signifies we set a size range and sticker-price cap judged most relevant to the most buyers.

The top overall scorer in a close competition: Honda Pilot. Complete model-by-model ranking, scores, features, judges' reactions and some reasons why each one finished as it did, are above.

But here are some broad, overall impressions:

â¢$37,000 doesn't go far in this crowd.

All the test SUVs were more than presentable, but not all had leather upholstery, for instance, or backup cameras. Only two had navigation systems (Explorer and Sorento). Only one (Pilot) had a rear entertainment system.

And none had all-wheel drive, which buyers in some regions would consider necessary. All could be equipped with all-wheel drive for a price: $1,600 for the Pilot, for example.

The automakers supplied the test vehicles (except for Ford) and picked the combination of features and options they hoped would get the best mileage (10% of the total score) and make the best impressions on the expert judges and the Kochs (pronounced "Cooks") â Tarek and Heather and their two children â picked to leaven the tests with a real family's input.

â¢Despite differences in size, weight and government fuel-economy ratings, all got about 24 miles per gallon on the highway in our real-world gas mileage test.

The results from our 230-mile open-road jaunt, in which each vehicle was rotated among the expert judges, were in a range from 23.5 mpg (Chevy Traverse) to 25.4 mpg (Kia Sorento).

The results are somewhat surprising. The mpg-winner Kia's vigorous V-6 encouraged heavy-footed driving.

The Chevy's large size and weight made it less frisky and provided no incentive for hard driving.

â¢Being new wasn't necessarily a trump card. Ford's redesigned Explorer rolled out in late 2010 as a 2011 model with new styling, features and drivetrain, yet tied the Sorento for lowest score.

Ford is selling Explorers two to three times as fast as a year ago, so buyers might dispute our ranking.

Honda Pilot, meanwhile, just got a very mild update â the exterior's hard to distinguish from the previous version unless they're side-by-side â and it finished first.

An aging member of the group, the Mazda CX-9 launched in 2007 and little changed since, came in at a respectable third.

â¢Though these family SUVs were similar in concept, there were significant differences in how they drove, how much cargo space they had, how many passengers they carried and how comfortably they did so.

Not one of the tested vehicles had the best of everything â no surprise to serious car shoppers. Buying one would be a heavy exercise in priorities and compromise.

The Koch family was a real find for this Shootout. They recently went through the hand-wringing shopping process and got a Buick Enclave SUV, mechanically similar to, and the same size as, the Chevy Traverse in the Shootout.

They were replacing a Jeep Grand Cherokeeand, in addition to the Buick, they considered a GMC Acadia, also a sibling of the Traverse, and the Toyota Highlander.

The recent shopping adventure meant they were past being wowed by new gadgetry or exotic options and could focus on roominess, key features and price. Almost.

Tarek Koch, 38, who works as an estimator for a big-job concrete contractor, kept remarking on the looks, leather and layout of the Durango.

And while he appreciated the value price of the Traverse, he said he had no second thoughts about having bought its upscale cousin, the Enclave, because "it's a lot quieter."

His wife, Heather, 38, works three days a week as an account executive at a finance company and is the shuttle service for the kids, McKenna, 8, and Bryson, 5.

She lasered in on how easy or difficult it was for the kids to use the second and third rows.

The family's ratings counted for 25% of a vehicle's total score. The combined votes of the auto journalists from USA TODAY, Cars.com and MotorWeek made up 65%. Fuel economy was the other 10%.

The 14.1% share of new vehicle sales this year by this group of large and midsize mainstream SUVs, most of them crossovers and not truck-based, is the highest since 14.2% in pre-recession 2007, says J.D. Power and Associates. And sales are gaining steam, so the group easily could overtake the 2007 share.

The average of $32,833 that buyers are paying for large and midsize SUVs this year is not only a record, says J.D. Power, but well above the overall average for all vehicles of $28,029.

According to CW46,

Beginning on November 14, 2011, Patrons are encouraged to bring new or gently used coats to

our sponsor locations including your dealership and place them in the collection barrel labeled Coats for

Kids. The campaign runs through December 31, 2011.

Throughout the campaign coats will be picked up, sorted and coats that are not new will be sent to the

drycleaner sponsor to be cleaned. The Salvation Army will then handle all of the coat distribution to

families in need. Coats collected after Christmas will be given out in January during a mid-winter relief

effort with the Salvation Army. We collect both adult and kid coats and will put all coats to good use.

Honda Automobiles: Honda Announces Pricing Information for 2012 Civic Natural Gas

The all-new 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas (formally known as the Civic GX), the only dedicated natural gas-powered passenger vehicle manufactured and sold in the U.S., will go on sale at qualified Honda dealerships nationwide on October 18 with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price¹ (MSRP) starting at $26,155.

To support growing consumer interest in alternative-fuel vehicles, American Honda is expanding its network of U.S. dealers which are qualified to sell and service the Civic Natural Gas to retail customers expanding sales to 200 dealers in 38 states. Previously, retail sales of the natural gas-powered Civic had been limited to four states - California, New York, Utah and Oklahoma.

The Civic Natural Gas offers multiple benefits including significantly reduced operating costs compared to gasoline and lower fuel costs, with natural gas purchased at public fueling stations historically costing about 30-percent less than gasoline on a gasoline-gallon-equivalent basis. As an alternative-fuel vehicle with extremely low smog-forming emissions, the Civic Natural Gas currently qualifies for a state-issued decal allowing single-occupant access to High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) "carpool" lanes in California and several other states. The Civic Natural Gas engine produces almost zero smog-forming emissions and is the cleanest internal-combustion vehicle certified by the EPA (Tier-II, Bin-2 and ILEV certification as of August 2010).

Featuring new styling, enhanced performance and increased fuel economy, the redesigned 2012 Civic Natural Gas can now be equipped with the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System featuring an exclusive database of publically accessible Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling stations across the United States.

Standard equipment on the 2012 Civic Natural Gas includes the new "intelligent" Multi-Information Display (i-MID) that provides a convenient platform for integration of vehicle information and compatible personal electronics with a driver-oriented 5-inch color LCD display and intuitive steering wheel controls. All models also come equipped with Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for wirelessly connecting compatible mobile phones and a USB audio interface for compatible music players.

A modified 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine found in the Civic Sedan and Coupe models powers the new Civic Natural Gas. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. The Civic Natural Gas has an EPA-rated city/highway/combined fuel economy² of 27/38/31 miles per gallon (gasoline-gallon equivalent). Compared to the previous model, city fuel economy is up by 12.5 percent and highway fuel economy is improved by 5.5 percent. Additionally, the 2012 Civic Natural Gas achieves a 10.7 percent improvement in combined fuel economy and range. The new model also incorporates the Honda ECO Assist system, an innovative technology that can enhance efficient vehicle operation at the touch of a button, while also providing visual feedback to the driver to promote and confirm a more efficient driving style.

The Civic Natural Gas engine incorporates unique features to operate exclusively on compressed natural gas. The compression ratio is increased to 12.7:1, compared to 10.6:1 in the Civic Sedan's gasoline-powered engine. Exclusive fuel injectors, intake and exhaust valves, and valve seats are designed to accommodate the unique properties of natural gas. Stronger connecting rods and crankshaft as well as special pistons are used to accommodate both the higher compression ratio of the engine and octane rating of the fuel.

The Civic Natural Gas has its 3600-psi fuel tank located between the rear wheels. The safety-engineered, aluminum-lined composite fuel tank can contain the gasoline-gallon equivalent (GGE) of 7.8 gallons of gasoline when filled with CNG to 3600 psi.

Designed with a sleek windshield rake, a sweeping roofline and a fresh interpretation of the previous model's "one-motion" profile, the lines of the 2012 Civic Natural Gas suggest a sophisticated and athletic appearance. A low and wide stance contributes to its distinctive visual presence, while thinner A-pillars stretch further toward the front of the vehicle than before to improve visibility and the perception of interior space. The C-pillars also stretch further toward the rear of the vehicle compared to the previous generation to better complete the flowing one-motion appearance. Aerodynamic features such as flat under-body construction and aerodynamic strakes in front of the tires help to increase fuel-efficiency.

The redesigned interior offers more style with new functionality and new features. An intuitive "two-tier" layout prioritizes frequently referenced instruments such as the speedometer by placing them high in the driver's line of sight. The i-MID can present audio information including album artwork, custom vehicle settings, and personal wallpaper backgrounds. A four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system is standard, and it can stream music wirelessly via a Bluetooth connection with a compatible player, or via a wired USB connection. A Bluetooth HandsFreeLink system offers convenient device pairing and lets the driver make calls using pre-assigned voice tags and steering wheel controls.

Building on the successful packaging of the previous generation Civic , the passenger volume of 94.6 cubic feet increases by 3.7 cubic feet, and gains have also been made in front shoulder room (+2.9 inches) and rear legroom (+1.6 inches).

The 2012 Civic embraces Honda's tradition of making its vehicles fun to drive by continuing to use a fully independent suspension design, a premium and exceptional feature in the entry compact segment. The front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspensions are tuned for sporty driving fun, yet provide refined ride comfort.

For safety, a wide variety of standard equipment includes Honda's exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure for enhanced frontal collision energy management and vehicle-to-vehicle crash compatibility. ACE enhances frontal collision energy management through a network of load bearing structures in the front of the vehicle. Additional standard safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) that integrates with the new Motion-Adaptive electric power steering (EPS) system; dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; front side airbags with occupant position detection system (OPDS); side curtain airbags; and a 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

The Civic Natural Gas is recognized by the state of California as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) by meeting SULEV emissions standards and warranting its emissions durability for at least 150,000 miles or 15 year (in California and those states that have adopted California's ZEV regulations). The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) named the 2011 natural gas-powered Civic "America's Greenest Vehicle" for the eighth time in its Green Book ranking of environmentally responsible vehicles. Natural Gas as a low carbon fuel emits 25 percent less CO2 emissions than gasoline when used to power an internal combustion engine.

The 2012 Fit Sport models gain further interior enhancements in the form of dark metallic accents on the dashboard and chrome touches on the instrument panel. Standard steering wheel mounted audio controls and upgraded seat fabric further set the Fit Sport apart, and available Bluetooth^Â® HandsFreeLink^Â® enhances safety by keeping your hands on the wheel and off your phone. The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System^â¢ is also available; it features Voice Recognition and a 6.5-inch display to clearly show you more than seven million points of interest. The system uses 16GB flash memory instead of the previous DVD-based data storage.

2012 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Coupe

All new for 2011 when it was named the Most-Efficient Two Seater by the EPA¹, the 2012 CR-Z debuts today with one available feature change a new black seat fabric becomes an option on cars with the Crystal Black Pearl exterior color, replacing the standard silver mesh sport seats. The 2012 CR-Z starts at $19,545, plus a destination and handling² charge of $770.

The CR-Z is available in two models the well-equipped CR-Z and the feature-rich CR-Z EX. A six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment and a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is available. Standard features on the CR-Z include Vehicle Stability Assist, an AM/FM/CD/USB audio system with six speakers, automatic climate control, power windows and door locks, remote entry, cruise control, and more.

The CR-Z EX adds High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights with Auto-On/Off, fog lights, a 360-Watt AM/FM/CD Premium Audio System with seven speakers including subwoofer, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more. A high-tech appearance and intuitive controls define the interior. Instrument panel meters illuminate with a three-dimensional blue color theme resulting in a multi-layered appearance. Set against textured black materials and aluminum-style trim accents, the upper portion of the dashboard extends toward the driver to provide a wraparound cockpit environment. Premium sport-oriented seats are designed to provide firm lateral support along with everyday driving comfort. A mid-ship console behind the front seats optimizes cargo space, and a hard-shell separator can be closed to create additional hidden storage.

The CR-Z features a six-speaker, 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with an auxiliary input jack for connection to a portable audio player, and all models include a USB audio interface⁴ for connecting an iPod⁵ or other compatible audio device. Other audio features include speed-sensitive volume control and CD/MP3 text readout. The radio data system shows supplemental programming information from participating radio stations while also offering search-by-genre capability (not available on the CR-Z EX with navigation).

The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System³ is available on the CR-Z EX model and features a 6.5-inch display. The navigation system database includes more than 7-million points of interest and integrates the audio system. The voice recognition feature is capable of inputting numbers, street names and cities, in addition to more than 600 commands. Data storage is via a single DVD that contains information for the entire United States.

Performance and Efficiency

The CR-Z hybrid powertrain is a unique variation of Hondas original IMA technology , which originally debuted on the 2000 Honda Insight, the first hybrid vehicle available for sale in North America. The system utilizes a four-cylinder, 16-valve, single-overhead cam engine with intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) that receives additional power from the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) systems DC brushless electric motor. The system delivers a combined peak output of 122 horsepower at 6000 RPM and 128 lb-ft. of torque at 1000 to 1750 RPM (123 lb-ft. at 1000 to 2000 on CVT-equipped models).

The 10-kilowatt electric motor assists in acceleration and also acts as a generator during braking or coasting to capture kinetic energy that recharges the 100-volt IMA nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The gasoline engine can automatically turn off during vehicle stops to improve efficiency. When starting on steep inclines from a stop with the manual transmission, hill start assist temporarily prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards during the moment between releasing the brake, depressing the throttle and releasing the clutch.

EPA-estimated fuel economy⁶ is 35/39/37 city/highway/combined mpg on CVT-equipped models and 31/37/34 city/highway/combined mpg on manual models. The CR-Z is rated as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) in states that adhere to California Air Resource Board (CARB) ZEV standards (EPA Tier 2, Bin 2 in all states).

Three-Mode Drive System

Activated via three backlit buttons to the left of the steering wheel, the three-mode drive system allows the driver to select between individual modes of performance for Sport, Normal and Economy driving styles:

Sport mode enhances engine throttle responsiveness, electric power steering effort and the electric motor power assist.
Normal mode standardizes steering, engine response, motor assist and air conditioning settings.
Econ mode can increase the potential for enhanced fuel efficiency by optimizing throttle angle for smooth acceleration, lower engine rpm and limiting power and torque by approximately 4 percent (except at wide-open throttle). It can also reduce the air conditionings overall load on the engine and modify the cruise control to operate more efficiently.

Safety by Design

The CR-Z demonstrates a commitment to safety in its design and construction. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure helps protect vehicle occupants in a frontal collision. Additional safety technologies include: standard dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; standard front-side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); side-curtain airbags, active head restraints; an anti-lock braking system (ABS); a tire pressure monitoring system; and a pedestrian injury mitigation design in the front of the vehicle.

Sport-Tuned Chassis

The front MacPherson strut and rear H-shaped torsion beam suspension are tuned to provide a sporty driving experience. All models are equipped with 16x6-inch aluminum wheels with 195/55R16 86V tires, while accessory 17x7 alloy wheels with 205/45R17 84V tires are available. The standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD) uses ventilated front discs and solid rear discs. The low vehicle height and placement of the battery and other hybrid components beneath the rear cargo area further contribute to a low center of gravity and responsive, sporty handling. Electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering enhances steering performance and improves efficiency.

The roles of the automaker and the car magazine are well delineated: The former makes the cars, and the latter reports on them. Once in a while, though, we see the two changing hats, as automakers produce their own brand magazines and magazines build their own kit cars and whatnot. But this collaboration, for better or worse, brings the two that much closer. And if any publication was going to break the mold, we suppose it would have to be Intersection.

For those not familiar, Intersection is a different kind of car magazine from what you typically pick up at the news stand - more for fashion-forward hipsters than for grease-monkeys and gearheads. The publication typically features spreads featuring skinny models in skinny jeans next to Nissan Cubes and vintage Volvos - or an Audi submerged in a swimming pool - but for their latest project, the French edition of the magazine teamed up with Honda for the special-edition CR-Z you see here.

The unique hybrid coupe is distinguished by a matte beige paint job with orange steel wheels riding on matching orange tires for the summer, and black wheels with black tires for the winter. Eley Kishimoto outfitted the interior. It was unveiled just the other day at the Galerie Nikki Diana Marquardt in Paris, and while it looks to be a one-off for the time being, Honda France is reportedly considering a limited run for public consumption. 2012 Honda CR-V final design leaks out

You diehard Honda CR-V fans out there can finally get a glimpse of what the Japanese automaker has planned for its CUV. A rash of patent drawings has cropped up showing the new face of the next-generation vehicle ahead of its debut at the 2011 Orange County Auto Show. As expected, the basic shape of the 2012 CR-V has stuck fairly close to the lines of the concept image that debuted back in July. Design cues like the wide upper grille, swept headlights and stylized d-pillar have all stayed on while flashy bits like the concept's massive wheels have been scrapped for more civilized pieces.

Under the hood, we still expect to see a variant of the current 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. While tweaks to the final power and fuel consumptions may rear their heads at the unveil, we don't expect any dramatic changes. Buyers can look forward to a new six-speed automatic transmission that puts power to either the front or all four wheels depending on trim. The final unanswered question is whether or not Honda has managed to cram a third row of seats in the back...

Honda Automobiles: Honda Earns Highest Disclosure Scores Among Japanese Companies in Carbon Disclosure Project 2011 Global 500 Report

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) commended Honda in its 9th annual report, the 2011 Global 500 Report, which analyzes the responses of the world's 500 largest companies to a CDP questionnaire regarding the companys strategies and corporate governance to address climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Honda was recognized for its comprehensive information disclosure and listed as one of only 52 companies in the CDP's "Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index" (CDLI) with the highest score among all Japanese companies included in the survey. The CDLI features companies which have demonstrated the most professional approach to corporate governance regarding the disclosure of climate change information.

Honda was also featured as one of only 29 companies in CDP's "Carbon Performance Leadership Index" (CPLI). The CPLI was first established last year and highlights companies which have demonstrated a strong commitment to strategy, governance, stakeholder communications and emissions reduction in their CDP responses.

The CDP was established in the United Kingdom in 2000 as an independent not-for-profit organization and now represents 551 institutional investors with $71 trillion in assets. It has been operating with support from the governments of European countries and the U.S. as well as investors from all around the world. The CDP sends out standardized questionnaires to private-sector businesses and collects responses to analyze and disclose climate change information. The CDP now holds the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world.

Honda realizes that its proactive efforts in addressing climate change issues resulted in this recognition by CDP simultaneously in CDLI and CPLI. Honda will further enhance its environmental activities globally and locally in each region while at the same time taking a proactive approach to further advance its information disclosure practices.

In June of this year, Honda announced the Honda Environmental Vision: Realizing "the Joy and Freedom of Mobility" and "a Sustainable Society where People Can Enjoy Life." Toward the realization of this vision, Honda also introduced a global environmental slogan "Blue Skies for Our Children." Honda of Concord supports Hurricane Relief

With the plethora of rain, Tropical Storms, and Hurricanes, the East Coast of the United States is struggling to stay together and is suffering an inordinate amount of flooding and power outages.

The eastern part of North Carolina and the Outer Banks were hit especially hard as Hurricane Irene made landfall, and North Carolina has since asked for government disaster relief and Honda of Concord is encouraging our customers and employees to give back and help rebuild.

Here are two pictures, that have been featured prominently in the news coverage of the storm and the aftermath, that are both from the North Carolina Coast and Outer Banks.

This highway, leading to Hatteras Island, as been wiped out stranding thousands.

The Stinson family sits on the steps of their Nags Head cottage in North Carolina. Built in 1903, their house was swept away during the hurricane.

Honda of Concord also promises to MATCH any donation given to the Red Cross of no less than $100 and no more than $1000.

2012 Honda CR-V from Autoblog

The Honda Ridgeline is dead! Long live the Honda Ridgeline!

Despite a coming refresh for the 2012 model year, Honda has been widely reported as planning to send its unibody Ridgeline down the same road as its Element and S2000 after 2013. Even if that's true, that doesn't necessarily mean the curtain will have completely closed on the automaker's pickup truck offerings. According to AutoWeek, the next-generation Honda CR-V - previewed in the official concept image seen above - could spawn a compact pickup variant. Since the CR-V is itself based on the Civic, in a roundabout way, this could mean that we're looking at a Civic pickup, which is a bit tough to wrap one's head around.

A full-size car-based pickup never really set Honda's sales charts on fire, so maybe a smaller iteration will do the trick, right? We'll believe it when we see it.

In the meantime, Honda has a bunch of other updates planned for the next few years, including the launch of an all-new Accord in 2012. The next Accord will once again be offered with a hybrid variant (which hasn't been offered since 2007), and this gasoline-electric powertrain could also find its way under the hood of the CR-V.

Elsewhere in Honda's portfolio, AW asserts that the slow-selling Crosstour will finally get an entry-level four-cylinder model, and the Pilot will get a complete overhaul in the fall of 2013. Furthermore, rumors of a hotter Mugen-inspired CR-Z are still being mumbled, and a Fit EV city car may arrive as early as 2012.
